Privacy Policy

scrth collects nothing. It has no account system, no cloud sync, no analytics, no tracking, no advertising, and no server component. There is nowhere for your notes to go, because ShelTech does not operate a service for scrth to talk to. Everything the app stores, it stores on your Mac.

This policy covers the scrth macOS app and this website. It is short because there is very little to describe.

What ShelTech collects

Nothing. We do not collect, receive, transmit, store, sell, or share any personal data, note content, usage data, device identifiers, crash telemetry, or diagnostics from scrth. No data is transmitted from the app to ShelTech or to any third party.

What the app stores, and where

• Your notes. Stored in a local database inside the app’s own Application Support folder on your Mac.
• Local backups. Roughly once an hour, scrth writes a snapshot of your notes as plain Markdown files — one file per note — into the same local folder, and keeps a limited number of recent snapshots, deleting older ones. These files never leave your Mac, and you can read them in any text editor.
• Recovery records. Before a note is permanently deleted, scrth writes a local recovery record so a deletion can be traced or recovered. These records are also local, and are pruned automatically after a short retention period.
• Your settings. Preferences — how long notes live, your keyboard shortcuts, reminder time, and similar — are stored in the standard macOS preferences system on your Mac.

Deleting scrth and its Application Support folder removes all of it. We hold no copy, because we never had one.

Permissions the app asks for

Clipboard and Services

When you press the capture shortcut (⌃⌥C), scrth reads text you have already copied from the macOS clipboard and makes it a local note. It does not change or clear the clipboard, and the clipboard text is not sent anywhere.

You can also choose New scrth Note with Selection from an app’s Services menu. macOS then hands the selected text directly to scrth. The app may record the name of the application that supplied the selection, such as “TextEdit”, with that local note.

Neither capture method requires Accessibility permission. scrth does not monitor your screen, log keystrokes, inspect other apps in the background, or use synthetic copy commands.

Notifications

scrth asks for notification permission only when you set your first reminder on a note, and uses it only to show you that reminder at the time you chose. Notifications are scheduled locally by macOS on your Mac; no push service is used and no reminder content is sent anywhere. If you decline, reminders still return inside the app — you just will not get a system banner. You can revoke it at any time in System Settings › Notifications.

When you export a note

Exporting writes a Markdown file to the location you choose, using the standard macOS save panel. Where that file goes, and what happens to it afterwards, is up to you.

Third parties

scrth contains no third-party SDKs, no analytics or crash-reporting libraries, no advertising, and no embedded trackers. If you obtained scrth through a store such as the Mac App Store, that store handles the purchase and its own analytics under its own privacy policy; we receive no personal data from it beyond the aggregate sales reports the store shows every developer.

This website

This site sets no cookies — that is why there is no cookie banner. It runs no analytics, loads no third-party fonts, scripts, embeds, or images, and does not attempt to identify or track you. It is static pages and nothing else. Our hosting provider may keep ordinary server access logs for security and reliability, as any web host does; we do not use them to profile visitors.

Children

scrth is suitable for general audiences and collects no data from anyone, including children. We knowingly collect no personal information from children of any age, because we collect none from anyone.

Your rights

Privacy laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights to access, correct, delete, and port your personal data, and to object to its sale. ShelTech holds no personal data about scrth users, so there is nothing for us to hand over, correct, or erase, and nothing for us to sell — we have never sold or shared personal information. Your notes are already entirely in your own hands: you can read the backup files directly, export any note, and delete everything by removing the app’s data folder.

Data breaches

We hold no user data, so there is no user data of ours to breach. Securing the Mac your notes live on — disk encryption, your account password — is the layer that protects them, as it does for every other local file.

Changes to this policy

If scrth ever changes in a way that affects this policy, we will update this page and change the date at the top. If a future version were ever to collect or transmit anything, we would say so here plainly and ask for your consent in the app first.
